SUN ‘n FUN 2025: An Aviation Paradise
Attending the 51st annual SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo in Lakeland, Florida was an exhilarating deep dive into the heart of aviation culture. This spring’s event turned “fun” up to 51, drawing more than 200,000 enthusiasts from around the globe for a week packed with roaring jets, dazzling aerial displays, and camaraderie among pilots and fans.
Arrival and Atmosphere
After trading the Lone Star for the Sunshine State, the southeastern corner of the expo felt like an airfield reunion. Our base camp was the bustling Bushwheel area, where a patchwork of famous aircraft and pilots—including the Freedom Fox and Levi’s storch—were parked side by side. Old friends and new faces gathered under blue skies, sharing stories of challenging flights and convergences—this year, a storm over Alabama brought several of us together on the journey south.
Spectacle in the Skies
SUN ‘n FUN 2025 offered jaw-dropping performances every day, but the highlight was the triumphant return of the US Navy Blue Angels, dazzling crowds with gravity-defying aerobatics April 3rd–6th. Their precision maneuvers and thunderous formations drew everyone’s eyes skyward. Alongside them, the US Air Force F-35A Lightning II Demo Team and the US Navy Growler Demo Team showcased their aircraft’s cutting-edge capabilities, leaving audiences in awe of the sheer speed and agility on display.
Nightlife and Innovation
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the airshow continued with a modern twist—this year’s mesmerizing drone light shows lit up the Florida night, bringing a futuristic spectacle to all ages. The drone display perfectly complemented the day’s classic warbirds and jets, showing how tradition and technology blend flawlessly at SUN ‘n FUN.
